- Professor of law, Helsinki and Juba
A lawyer for cases of every kind, across East Africa.
Prof. Kuel Maluil Jok represents individuals, families and organisations, writes legal opinions for courts and institutions on the law of Sudan and South Sudan, and teaches law at the University of Helsinki and the University of Juba.

Representation and legal opinions
Prof. Jok takes on cases of every kind, for individuals, families and organisations, and writes legal opinions for courts, counsel and institutions. His particular ground is the law of Sudan and South Sudan: constitutional law and the independence of judges, international criminal law, customary law, and the duties international law places on states that apply Sharia.
His published positions are specific. South Sudanese customary law rejects amnesty, so a hybrid court should fix prison terms alongside apok, the blood compensation of 51 cattle. The 14 justices and judges dismissed by presidential decree were right to go to the East African Court of Justice, because constitutional immunities and section 33(2) of the Civil Procedure Code 2007 closed the domestic route. People amputated under Article 168(b) of Sudan's Criminal Act hold a right to food that national institutions must meet.

Working on a matter in East Africa?
Prof. Jok takes instructions from across the region and reads every enquiry himself. Write in English, state the jurisdiction, the court or institution involved and any deadline, and expect a plain answer on whether the matter falls within his practice.
